BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following Basic Qualifications Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
A. Degree: in one or a combination of astronomy, physics, mathematics, space science, or electronics. The course work must have included differential and integral calculus and 12 semester hours in astronomy and/or physics.

B. Combination of education and experience — at least 30 semester hours of courses equivalent to a major in any combination of astronomy, space science, physics, mathematics, and electronics, with required course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
If you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you must submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
*Experience utilizing specific areas of optical and/or radio astronomy, astrophysics, time scales, numerical analysis, statistics, and computational techniques.
*Experience analyzing instrumentation, observing, and data processing techniques required for determination of fundamental positions, and motions and distances of selected celestial objects as appropriate for the Division.
*Experience overseeing the technical aspects of the Division’s mission, making technical contributions to existing projects to participate in the development of new projects and programs, and serving as an authoritative advisor on technical matters.
*Experience supervising subordinate staff in the Division.
*Experience communicating clearly orally and in writing in order to give the many presentations and reports required of this position.
