What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will serve as an Emergency Management Specialist (Response).
Typical assignments include:

  • Coordinating, determining, and representing FEMA’s interests during exercise design, planning, and participation, as well as evaluation and improvement planning.
  • Working closely with exercise planning team members and key stakeholders to coordinate exercises and manage FEMA participation in exercises.
  • Leading the planning, coordination, and logistical requirements of meetings, as well as logistical requirements of exercises.
  • Supporting continuous improvement activities, to include facilitating exercise After Action Meetings in partnership with Continuous Improvement Working Group representatives.
  • Supporting FEMA EEP management and developing exercise processes and procedures to build and maintain an effective exercise program.

To qualify for this position at the GS-13 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:

  • Leading/overseeing exercise projects of various scales to coordinate National Level Exercises (examples: seminars, workshops, tabletops, functional and full-scale exercises, developing SMART objectives); AND
  • Defining scope of play, controlling/evaluating performance in exercises and assisting in the development and management of fiscal budgets for exercises; AND
  • Developing exercise materials, policies, plans, and procedures (examples: summaries, briefing memos, talking points for senior leadership approval to situation manuals and Exercise Evaluation Guides to After-Action Reports); AND
  • Facilitating and briefing audiences in the emergency management and homeland security career field, ranging from 20 to 200+ stakeholder.
