We are looking for you to join our team as a Director Engineering 1 based out of Rolling Meadows, Illinois.

The Manufacturing Engineering team is comprised of the following Manufacturing Engineering functions: Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, Test Engineering, Manufacturing System Engineering, Software Engineering, Test Equipment Hardware Design, Factory equipment maintenance, Tool Design, Material Evaluation Lab, Automation Development and Business Process Tool Development.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated successful experience with the following:

  • Being a strong communicator, both written and verbal. Comfortable presenting to executive leaders, peers and other functions as well as all levels throughout their own organization.
  • Recruiting, retaining, coaching, and empowering leaders to develop a high performing and collaborative team.
  • Interfacing with staff and all levels of the organization to drive for a highly engaged team.
  • Collaborating with all functions within Manufacturing as well as Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, Program Office and Business Management to meet common goals.
  • Establishing and promoting an environment that supports early collaboration on designs with Engineering counterparts. Driving for optimal producibility and testability of all designs.
  • Developing and maintaining a Continuous Improvement culture. Demonstrating a commitment to improvement across products and processes. Emphasizing the importance of the DMAIC process and data driven decision making to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Setting a standard of excellence with respect to process discipline. Ensuring all employees are trained and understand the importance of following all established processes.
  • Understanding key financial metrics, what impacts them and how to drive an organization to meet these metrics in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Working with programs, analysts and business managers to understand the business forecast. Translate that into a staffing plan and ensure staffing is optimal to meet program and business needs.
  • Understanding organizational, product and program needs to develop investment strategies that drive successful outcomes.
  • Always learning new technologies and having the curiosity to do so. Supporting the team in understanding technical issues and driving to quick resolutions. Staying on top of new technologies that drive our products and manufacturing.

Basic Qualifications for the Director Manufacturing Engineering 1:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science or related technical field with a minimum of 15 years of experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive direct people leadership experience in manufacturing/production, operations, program management, testing, or related area
  • Experience developing strategic roadmaps and investment priorities
  • Experience working across multiple disciplines (design, manufacturing and test engineering) with a focus on product development and producibility.
  • Experience with financial management including project & process control, budgets, Earned Value and Project Management
  • Experience with industry and management methodologies focused on continuous improvement in manufacturing, such as ISO 9000, Total Quality Management or Six Sigma
  • Experience with program / product lifecycle in the areas of new business pursuit, design, supply chain management, receiving operations, inventory control, production control, product test & evaluation, reliability, root cause analysis, product sell off, shipping and product support as they apply to quality.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications for the Director Manufacturing Engineering 1:

  • Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical or Test Engineering
  • Experience with ISO9001/AS9100
  • Experience with Six Sigma tools (ex. Green Belt, Black Belt)
  • Ability to obtain US Top Secret clearance

Salary Range: $188,600.00 – $282,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
