Commander, Navy Installations

This position is assigned to the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Maintenance Department, Naval Station Mayport, Florida. The purpose of this position is to provide adequate and timely custodial services to the MWR operation. This position does not have a positive education requirement. Performs one or more of the following duties: Scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy (industrial-type) powered scrubbers and buffers. Vacuum cleans rugs, using heavy (industrial-type) vacuum cleaner. Adjusts, cleans and oils these machines, and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them. Washes and replaces blinds, changes light bulbs and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions, using ladders and scaffolds. Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment. Keeps restrooms in clean, orderly and sanitary condition. Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls. Cleans mirrors, sinks, and water fountains. Dusts ledges and woodwork. Replaces deoderizes, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap. Maintains a stock of cleaning materials and equipment and notifies supervisor when more are needed. Cleans showers, sauna and steam room. Performs other related duties as required.

Specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work safely while moving lightweight objects.
  • Ability to use powered equipment and perform minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Ability to learn Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Ability to exercise continual care, due to nature of tools and equipment used, and the weight of objects handled.
  • Ability to receive instructions and complete routine duties involving several distinct tasks or steps independently or with little to no supervision.
  • Ability to exert moderately heavy physical effort in controlling heavy equipment, carrying and setting up heavy equipment.
  • Ability to continually stand, bend, stoop, and reach; frequently lifting and moving objects weighing about 40 lbs. and occasionally objects weighing over 50 lbs.
  • Ability to be exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
