You will serve as a ANTENNA ELECTRICIAN in the Telecommunications Dept. of NAVAL COMMUNICATION. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION:

  • Repairing antenna panels, ground system components, performs maintenance repairs on VLF Feed through bushings, electronic components of helix coils, coax transmission lines, switch gear and variometers;
  • Maintaining high frequency antennas up to 120 feet in height and perform gut-tensioning functioning using instruments such as sine measuring devices, hydraulic guy jacks and dynamometers;
  • Installing, repairing, maintaining electric wires, poles, support, transformers, electrical distribution systems, control systems, transmissions lines, and lighting circuits associated w/VLF and HF antenna systems to include but not limited to tower lightings, Fix drum hoist operation, motor, analog and digital instrumentation and building lighting and power distribution both in and out doors;
  • Developing installation plans, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams;
  • Inspecting/repairing cables, clamps, elements, rotation systems, coaxial cables, inner and outer conductors, gear box, guy cables, guy anchors, ground screens upper and lower insulators, spark gaps, feed assemblies, and plumb poles;
  • Repairing and maintaining all electrical aspects in the high frequency antenna farm.
