Data Scientist (Visualization)

This position is part of the Office of the Inspector General, Department of Energy in the Office of Cyber Assessments and Data Analytics. As a Data Scientist (Visualization), you will provide technical expertise for the organization by leading efforts to make data available and usable by developing data visulatizations or supporting innovative research and analysis on Department of Energy operations, investigations, inspections, and audits.   • The incumbent shall be a Power Business Intelligence (BI) specialist playing a critical role in designing and developing effective data visualizations using Power Business Intelligence (BI).
  • The incumbent will provide analytical support by helping to identify the appropriate data, methodological approaches, and designs for projects to identify fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • The incumbent is responsible for developing, scheduling, executing, and managing (monitoring) data pipelines using Azure Synapse to perform ELT/ETL processes.
  • Take a leading role in the development of the data governance documentation and processes covering data, strategy and visualizations.

This position has a Basic Requirement/Positive Education requirement.

You must have a degree inMathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position

OR

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate’s online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:

  1. Creating and implementing data collection and analysis tools while utilizing computer programming language.
  2. Utilizing software applications and software languages such as (PowerBI, DAX, and other data analytics tool) s to generate reports or data visualizations that convey data to technical and non-technical audiences.
  3. Collaborating with internal or external stakeholders to review specialized data and recommend solutions.
