Army National Guard Units
This position is with the Houston Army Aviation Support Facility located in Ellington Field JRB, Houston, Texas. The purpose of this position is to serve as shop chief over a small organizational segment in the Logistics function of the Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF)/Aviation Classification Repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD), with responsibility for the overall shop operation. Oversees and directs the work of one or more Aircraft Propeller Mechanics, WG-8810-10, who are assigned to the shop.

As an AIRCRAFT PROPELLER MECHANIC (SMALL SHOP CHIEF) (TITLE 32) with the Texas Army National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:
- Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop, which is then completed by the incumbent and lower graded mechanic(s). Determines approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures. Estimates time, equipment and material requirements. Devises and maintains plans and records. Provides recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, and leave.
- Performs the full range of shop work.
- Performs in-process, final inspection, and clear status symbols certifying work performed by others in shop.
- Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.
- Prepares for, and participates in, various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. Performs additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment. Serves as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
WG – Experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft propeller assemblies and their components in accordance with technical specifications, procedures, and requirements. Experience using hand and power tools common to the trade.
Specialized Experience Required:
To qualify at the WG-11 grade level, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting the following:
Experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft propellers, assemblies, and accessories. Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft propellers, components, for rotary wing aircraft. Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis.
Quality of Experience: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates’ experience should be evaluated based on duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant’s record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position.
Military Requirements
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a military assignment in the Texas Army National Guard.
