Tractor Operator (Greenskeeper)

This position is located in the Maintenance Branch, Golf Course Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Naval Station Mayport, Florida.

This position does not have a positive education requirement. Incumbent operates a four-wheel gas or diesel field type tractor with hydraulic and mechanical controls, and with attached and towed equipment. Performs minor preventative maintenance on equipment, i.e. checks fluid levels and tire pressure before operating vehicles. Ensures that all equipment is cleaned up and properly stored at the completion of task.

Responsible for mowing of tees, greens, fairways, green banks, tee banks, roughs, open fields and along roadways. Reports turf conditions to supervisor. Operates weedeaters and other necessary tools to keep grass areas and plants trimmed as directed by supervisor.

Resets cups on greens and moves tee markers. Rakes and maintains sand traps, replaces with fresh sand as may be required.

Ensures areas are policed and that trash and garbage are disposed of properly.

Assists with seeding, sodding and fertilizing of grounds. Assists with the installation and repair of irrigation system.

May perform other duties to maintain course grounds.

Specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Ability to adjust and operate a gas and diesel tractor and specialized equipment and to be able to manipulate both tractor and hydraulic controlled equipment simultaneously.
• Knowledge of equipment and correct attachment methods, their power requirements, braking and turning capacities, power ratios and operating speeds.
• Ability to perform minor maintenance to equipment, i.e., oils and grease.
• Ability to recognize changes in turf conditions.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and limited first aid.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
